Grant County, Indiana is home to everything classic and cool, and one of Hollywood’s coolest icons, James Dean, was born and raised right here in Fairmount, Indiana. Dean is best known for his famous roles in three Hollywood movies and for his love of classic cars. Each year, Grant County hosts a James Dean Spring Run Car Show to honor the icon and his nostalgic, timeless cars.
Never again will a celebrity be so closely connected to classic cars and motorcycles! While you are in Grant County plan to see the motorcycle shop where Dean bought his first bike, check out Jimmy’s own personal 1955 Triumph on display at the Fairmount Historical Museum, take home your own nifty 50’s gift from the Rebel Rebel gift shop at the James Dean Gallery and get lost in the nostalgia of the 1950’s.
Presented by the 9th Street Gang Car Club, The Annual James Dean Spring Run Car Show raises money to benefit local charities and community programs. Held at Playacres Park, the Car Show features Street Rods, Classics, Muscle Cars and special interest cars. Over 140 awards will be given out to participants, and entry is free for spectators. Be sure to check out the stage in the main pavilion at the park – it’s the stage that Jimmy acted on when he was a student at Fairmount High School.
Great music and delicious eats will be provided. There is no better place to check out classic rides and enjoy a tasty treat, than in James Dean’s hometown, Fairmount, Indiana! This year, due to COVID-19, the James Dean Spring Run Car Show has been rescheduled for July 18, 2020. Visitors are asked to maintain safe 6-feet social distancing from others during the show, and masks are highly encouraged.
