Community Day Obstacle Course & Fishing

Join us for this fun family day!  Fun obstacle course includes rope swing, tire run, zip line, water cannon, and much more. Small fee to run the course. Funds raised help low-income families in Marion. Free activities including fishing at the Matter Park pond. Picnic, prizes, giveaways. Get your tickets today!  

Family Book Club

Bring your family and let’s discuss Frankenstein by Mary Shelly! Discussion led by Amy Brainerd.  Limited to 10 families. Please sign up in the Children’s Room at the library. We’ll meet in the Children’s Activity Room. Part of the Indiana Humanities Quantum Leap program made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the Indiana State LIbrary and Indiana Center for the Book.

Kids’ Fishing Derby

Fishing derby for children age 2-14.  Age categories are: 2-5 year, 6-10 year, and 11-14. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.  Sign-in begins at 8:30am, fishing 9-10:30am, awards presented after.  Adult fishing from 10-10:30am. Emphasis on fishing from the bank, fishing for family fun, nature ethics, catch & release. Prizes for  longest fish in each age category.  Bait provided.  Registration required.  Regular property gate fees apply: $5 per IN vehicle, $7 out of state vehicle. Nature Play Day at the Salamonie

Fun for kids of all ages! Check in at the Salamonie Nature Center and get ready for your day of family fun. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at our picnic tables or in our shelter. Borrow a dip net to explore the Wildlife Management Pond for critters, hike on the tree trail and learn to identify various trees. Critter Talk at 3:30pm with a Naturalist – get introduced to a native Indiana animal.

Outdoor Adventures Day Camp

Kids ages 7-12 are invited to join us for two days of fun activities. Activities include outdoor cooking, archery, canoeing, hiking, and learning survival skills. Camp runs from 9:30am-4:30pm each day, and families are encouraged to camp for the night to enjoy evening stories around a campfire. All activities are led by trained Interpretive Naturalists and a certified shooting sports instructor. Daily lunch and a snack are included. Second Saturdays at the Salamonie

Canoeing Adventures – learn beginning paddling techniques. $3 per person. Canoe equipment provided, participants welcome to bring their own boats and gear. We will canoe in the marina bay. Limited space, advance registration required. Meet at the Salamonie’s Lost Bridge West modern campground gatehouse.

Smokey Bear’s Birthday Bash

Celebrate Smokey Bear’s birthday with games, food, a parade, live music, campsite decorating contests, and lots of fun! Saturday from 8am-10:30am chow down on pancakes and sausage prepared by the Upper Wabash Interpretive Services Friends group. Donations gratefully accepted. Party at the pond from 2:30pm-4:30pm – there will be water games with the local fire department, a corn hole tournament, and a youth archery shoot (equipment and safety instruction provided). Water Wars
