I was really encouraged listening to our luncheon guest speakers, Randy Stewart and Doug Perdue of Meijer Corporation. I'm a Meijer shopper myself, but currently have to travel to Muncie to shop there. What a treat it will be to have such a great store right here in Marion! Not only that, but the store will be much more user friendly in its layout, LEED certified (LEED is a "green" building standard), employ local people from management down, and be involved in our community. It was especially great to hear Randy talk about how much Meijer stores give back to their community. From many perspectives that's just smart business and will enable them to build a strong, loyal customer base.
Their goal is to have this store open by Easter, 2009. You can bet I'll be one of the first customers!
